Klimate Privacy Policy

How Klimate handles location, weather, saved activities, launch notifications, optional analytics, and support messages.

Klimate Privacy Policy

Klimate is a general-audience weather application operated by Kraig Spear in Michigan, United States. This Privacy Policy explains how Klimate handles information when you use the application, request a launch notification on the Klimate website, or contact support.

Klimate does not provide user accounts, sell personal information, serve advertising, or track people across applications or websites. Some features use Apple and other service providers to deliver weather, location search, environmental conditions, alerts, radar, synchronization, and optional anonymous app analytics. The sections below explain those services and the information involved.

Scope

Klimate is initially offered in the United States. This policy applies to the Klimate application on supported Apple platforms, the Klimate website, launch-notification requests, and messages sent to Klimate support. Third-party services used by Klimate have their own privacy practices, which are identified in this policy where relevant.

Location and Weather Information

Klimate can use your device’s current location to show local weather. Location access is optional and is requested through Apple’s system permission prompt when you choose a feature that needs it. If you grant permission, Apple Core Location provides Klimate with your device’s precise coordinates. You can instead search for and select a location without granting current-location access.

Location search text is sent to Apple’s MapKit search and geocoding services. Klimate does not intentionally retain the text you type into location search. When you select a search result, Klimate saves the resulting location name, coordinates, and time zone so it can show weather for that location.

Klimate uses a selected location’s coordinates as follows:

  • Exact coordinates are sent to Apple WeatherKit to retrieve weather conditions and forecasts.
  • Coordinates rounded to two decimal places are sent to Klimate’s Cloudflare Worker. The Worker converts them to a shared grid of approximately five kilometers before requesting data from Google’s Pollen and Air Quality APIs.
  • Coordinates rounded to four decimal places are sent to the National Weather Service to retrieve applicable United States weather alerts.
  • The selected location is provided to Klimate’s radar component to display weather radar for the surrounding area.

Klimate does not create user-location profiles or maintain a database that associates requested locations with a person or account. Coordinates, location names, and location-search text are not included in Klimate’s anonymous analytics or app-generated operational logs. Location information is otherwise transmitted only as described above or stored on your device and in your private iCloud database as described below.

Weather and environmental results are kept in active application memory and are not intentionally written to persistent storage on your device. Google pollen and air-quality results are cleared from application memory when the location changes or the app enters the background. To reduce repeated requests, the Cloudflare Worker temporarily caches Google results using shared geographic grid keys that do not contain a user or account identifier. Current air-quality results are cached for up to 15 minutes, air-quality forecasts for up to one hour, and pollen forecasts for up to three hours.

Radar images and related responses are an exception to the preceding device-storage description. Klimate’s radar component keeps radar data in bounded in-memory caches while the application is running and uses an operating-system-managed disk cache of up to 50 MB to reduce repeated NOAA downloads. Cached entries may be evicted by the cache or operating system and are removed with the application’s local data when the application is deleted.

Service Providers and Data Sources

Klimate uses the following providers to operate its features:

  • Apple: Core Location supplies optional current-location access; MapKit supports location search and geocoding; WeatherKit supplies weather conditions and forecasts; and private CloudKit may synchronize saved locations, activities, and application state. Apple’s Foundation Models framework performs optional criteria assistance using Private Cloud Compute when it is available to an eligible physical-device build, with an on-device model as the fallback.
  • Cloudflare and Google: Klimate’s Cloudflare Worker receives environmental-data requests, applies authentication and rate limits, uses the connecting IP address as a rate-limit key, temporarily caches shared results, and requests pollen and air-quality data from Google. The released production Worker does not send on-device assistance prompts to a remote AI provider.
  • NOAA/National Weather Service: NOAA and the National Weather Service supply United States weather alerts and radar data for the requested map area.
  • TelemetryDeck: If you enable anonymous analytics, TelemetryDeck processes the usage and diagnostic information described in “Anonymous Analytics and Diagnostics.”

These providers process information under their own terms and privacy policies. Klimate shares only the information needed to provide the relevant feature.

Saved Locations

Locations you save include a name, coordinates, source, time zone, display order, recent-access information, and an internal identifier. Saved locations are stored on your device using Apple’s SwiftData framework. If iCloud is available for Klimate, they may also synchronize through your private Apple CloudKit database so they are available on your devices.

Saved locations remain until you delete them in Klimate. Deletion is saved locally and is sent to your private CloudKit database when iCloud synchronization is available. Deleting Klimate removes its local data from that device, but it may not by itself remove data already stored in your private iCloud database.

Klimate also stores the internal identifier of the currently selected location in device preferences. This preference is replaced when you choose another location and is cleared when its saved location is deleted.

Saved Activities and Criteria Assistance

Klimate lets you create activities and describe the weather conditions you prefer for them. A saved activity may include its name, symbol, enabled status, weather criteria, schedule, evaluation information, and an internal identifier. This information is stored on your device using SwiftData and may synchronize through your private CloudKit database when iCloud is available for Klimate.

Saved activities remain until you delete them in Klimate. Deletion is saved locally and is sent to your private CloudKit database when iCloud synchronization is available.

You may optionally enter a prompt asking Klimate to draft weather criteria for an activity. On an eligible physical-device build, Klimate first attempts to process the prompt using Apple’s Foundation Models running on Apple Private Cloud Compute. If Private Cloud Compute is unavailable or its per-user quota is exhausted, Klimate attempts to use Apple’s on-device Foundation Model instead. Simulator and Mac Catalyst builds use only the on-device path.

The prompt and the instructions needed to draft the criteria are sent to Apple when Private Cloud Compute serves the request. They are not sent to Kraig Spear, Klimate’s Cloudflare Worker, Google, TelemetryDeck, or another artificial-intelligence provider. Apple states that data sent to and returned by Private Cloud Compute is used only to fulfill the request, is not made accessible to Apple, and is not retained after the response is returned. The prompt is held temporarily while the feature is in use and is not saved with the activity. Criteria you choose to save become part of the saved activity described above. If neither Apple model is available, Klimate does not send the prompt to a different remote provider.

Anonymous Analytics and Diagnostics

Klimate offers optional anonymous analytics through TelemetryDeck to understand how the released application is used and to identify reliability problems. Anonymous analytics are off by default. Klimate does not initialize TelemetryDeck or send analytics unless you turn on “Share Anonymous Analytics” in the application’s Settings.

If you enable analytics, this service receives an anonymized installation identifier, application version and build, device model and platform, operating-system version, device time zone, application language and region settings, names of specific actions taken within the application, and limited diagnostic classifications and counts. Klimate disables TelemetryDeck’s session statistics feature. Diagnostic events may include stable error domains and numeric error codes. Criteria-assistance events may include whether Apple’s Private Cloud Compute or the on-device model served a request, a bounded fallback classification, and a bucketed total token count. They do not include the prompt or generated criteria.

Klimate does not attach a name, email address, account identifier, or other developer-provided user identity to analytics. Klimate configures its analytics events not to include coordinates, location names, location-search text, saved activity names, on-device assistance prompts, URLs, network request or response contents, authentication tokens, or free-form user-entered or error text.

Klimate uses this information only to understand application usage and improve features, performance, and reliability. It is not used for advertising, cross-application tracking, or building profiles about individual users. You may turn anonymous analytics off at any time in the application’s Settings. Turning it off prevents Klimate and the TelemetryDeck SDK from creating new analytics events.

TelemetryDeck states that it does not store the IP addresses associated with application analytics. The amount of analytics history available to Klimate depends on the TelemetryDeck account plan. TelemetryDeck explains that events outside a plan’s queryable retention period may be moved to cold storage rather than automatically deleted unless automatic deletion is enabled. Klimate configures TelemetryDeck to automatically delete its anonymous analytics data after 12 months; the owner verified that account setting on August 1, 2026. Because Klimate has no user accounts and does not associate analytics with a known identity, Klimate has no identity record that can be used to find or delete analytics events for a particular person.

Your Choices and Data Deletion

You can use Klimate without granting access to your current location by searching for and selecting a location manually. You can grant, limit, or revoke Klimate’s location permission at any time in Apple’s system settings.

Anonymous analytics are off by default. You can enable or disable them at any time using “Share Anonymous Analytics” in Klimate’s Settings. Disabling analytics stops new analytics collection; events previously sent while analytics were enabled remain subject to the retention practices described above.

You can delete saved locations and activities within Klimate. Those deletions are applied to the device and sent to your private CloudKit database when iCloud synchronization is available. You can manage Klimate’s access to iCloud through Apple’s system settings. Deleting the application removes its local data from that device but may not, by itself, delete data previously synchronized to your private iCloud database.

You may contact [email protected] from the subscribed address to cancel a launch notification or request deletion of that address. You may also ask about or request deletion of a support message. Klimate cannot use a name or email address to locate anonymous analytics because those events are not associated with a known identity or user account.

Website Launch Notification

If you ask to be notified when Klimate ships, the website sends the email address you provide to a same-origin Cloudflare Pages Function. The Function normalizes the address and stores it with the subscription time in a dedicated Workers KV namespace in Klimate’s Cloudflare account. The KV key is derived from a SHA-256 hash of the normalized address. The Function does not intentionally log the submitted address, IP address, browser details, or form contents.

The address is used only to send the single launch message described beside the form. It is not added to a general marketing list or connected to app analytics. The address will be deleted when you cancel the notification or within 30 days after the launch message is sent. Cloudflare also processes standard network metadata when it serves the website and Function request under the Cloudflare account and service configuration. Klimate does not enable stored Workers Logs, traces, exports, or Tail Workers for its Cloudflare services. Cloudflare provides aggregate Function metrics, such as request counts, errors, and timing information, which may remain available for up to three months.

Support Communications

If you contact Klimate support, Kraig Spear receives the email address you use, the contents of your message, any attachments you provide, and standard email metadata. This information is used to respond to your request, troubleshoot problems, protect the application and its users, and maintain relevant support records. Support communications are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for those purposes or to meet applicable legal obligations.

Security

Klimate uses reasonable technical and organizational measures intended to protect information handled by the application. These measures include Apple platform security, encrypted network connections, authenticated requests to Klimate’s Cloudflare Worker, and minimizing the information Klimate stores or transmits. No method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, so absolute security cannot be guaranteed.

Where Information Is Processed

Klimate is operated from Michigan, United States. Information may be processed in the United States and in other countries where Klimate’s service providers operate. Apple Private Cloud Compute processes eligible criteria-assistance requests on Apple-operated infrastructure under Apple’s privacy and security design. For example, TelemetryDeck states that it hosts its analytics service in Europe. Apple, Cloudflare, Google, and other providers process information according to their service configurations and privacy policies. Privacy and data-protection laws may differ between these locations.

Children’s Privacy

Klimate is intended for a general audience and is not specifically directed to children. Klimate does not offer user accounts or knowingly ask children to submit personal information. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided an email address through the launch form or support, contact [email protected].

Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated to reflect changes to Klimate, its service providers, or applicable requirements. The revised policy will be published with an updated effective date. When appropriate, notice of a material change will also be provided in the application.
